A trio of Arsenal stars were quick to provide their backing to Nuno Tavares on Thursday, after the under-fire Portuguese took to social media to reveal his take on the club’s defeat to Crystal Palace.
The name of full-back Tavares took centre stage in the headlines this past Monday evening.
Unfortunately for the summer arrival in north London, however, this came for all the wrong reasons.
After Kieran Tierney was forced to sit out proceedings at Selhurst Park owing to a knee injury, Tavares was thrown in at the deep end with a start in Arsenal’s crunch Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace.
Unfortunately for the former Benfica talent, however, he went on to endure something of a nightmare outing, not exactly covering himself in glory in the buildup to either Palace’s first or second goals, en route to an eventual 3-0 defeat.
Tavares, in turn, was hauled off with just 45 minutes played, forcing Granit Xhaka into an unfamiliar role at left-back.
That wasn’t in the script! 📜

‘Show them who you are’
Arsenal’s struggling defender was therefore unsurprisingly singled out for widespread criticism post-match, as many of a Gunners persuasion made clear their feelings that the 22-year-old is simply not of the standard required to feature for the club on a consistent basis.
With Kieran Tierney looking set to spend the remainder of the campaign on the sidelines, though, a regular starting berth may nevertheless well be on the cards for Tavares.
In turn, upon their under-fire teammate taking to social media to speak publicly for the first time on the back of his horror show versus Palace, as alluded to above, no fewer than three fellow members of Mikel Arteta’s squad were quick to provide their backing to Tavares.
The Gunners stars in question? Sambi Lokonga, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Alexandre Lacazette:
