Mumbai ex-mayor, 3 Sainiks held for attack; Kirit Somaiya complains against police to home secretary | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Khar police on Monday arrested four Shiv Sena members, including former Mumbai mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, in connection with the recent ‘attack’ on Kirit Somaiya even as the BJP leader flew down to Delhi with a delegation of party MLAs and corporators from the city to lodge a complaint against Mumbai police with Union home secretary Nityanand Rai.
In their complaint, Somaiya and the elected representatives said the former’s car was attacked with stones, bottles and chappals wh-en he went to meet arrested lawmaker couple Ravi and Navneet Rana at Khar police station on Saturday. “Somaiya was assaulted by 70-80 Sena activists on Khar police station premises in the presence of police. It means the police supported the goons. The CISF commandos were also beaten,” reads the letter.
The delegation demanded a probe by a special investigation team of the home ministry, and that the CISF be asked to register a separate FIR with Mumbai police. It also sought action against the ‘goons’ and Khar cops. The letter said this was the first assault on the ex-MP.
Confirming the arrests, DCP (zone IX) Manjunath Singe said Mahadeshwar, former corporator Haji Haleem Khan, functionary Dinesh Kunal and a Sainik were present at the spot and Somaiya saw them pelting stones at his SUV.
They have been charged with rioting, said sources. But Mahadeshwar told PTI, “We have been arrested, but we do not know under which IPC sections and whether they are bailable or non-bailable. We are in the [Khar] police station.”
