Pep Guardiola gives update on key Man City figures ahead of Brighton fixture

Pep Guardiola has begun final preparations for when his table-topping Manchester City side host Brighton at the Etihad tomorrow evening and has given updates on three key members of the first-team squad.

City comes into tomorrow’s Premier League clash on the back of their 3-2 loss against growing rivals Liverpool in the semi-final of the FA Cup as Jürgen Klopp’s Reds remain in the hunt for a historic quadruple, one where City will continue to play a key role in stopping them from achieving such a feat.

That key hand in Liverpool’s fortunes once again comes under the microscope tomorrow as City look to keep their slender one-point lead at the top of the league contingent on how Liverpool gets on against bitter rivals Manchester United later today at Anfield but will be made to clash with the Seagulls without key right-back Kyle Walker.

The veteran England international full-back will not be ready to return to first-team duties by tomorrow but his absence is likely to not prove decisive given the form of João Cancelo this season, but questions remain surrounding creator-in-chief Kevin De Bruyne as well as key center-back Rúben Dias, with the pair’s involvement to be decided on tomorrow according to the Spanish headmaster.

Guardiola remains coy amid Man City links with Erling Haaland

The Man City manager gave even less information regarding recent reports that have linked the club with an imminent move for Borussia Dortmund and Norway starlet Erling Haaland, as Guardiola remained coy on the subject.

As reported by the Daily Mail yesterday, City is rumored to have agreed to personal terms with the 21-year-old goalscoring machine which would see the Leeds-born striker reportedly earn a staggering £500,000-a-week, making him the highest-paid player in the Premier League.

Should Haaland seal a move to City, he would follow in the footsteps of his father and former Norwegian international Alf-Inge Håland who spent eight seasons in the Premier League (ten in England overall) during spells at City as well as Nottingham Forest, and Leeds United.

Though Guardiola was dismissive when given the chance to open up on any potential deal that may soon be finalized, the club has long been linked with interest in the Die Schwarzgelben hitman, who has bagged an astonishing 82-goals in 85-combined appearances in two-and-a-half Bundesliga seasons for the German giants, which includes 58-goals in just 63-appearances in the league.

Despite some Dortmund fans claiming that Haaland could end up as a bigger flop than summer signing Jack Grealish, his acquisition would be a potential game-changer if he settled to life in the blue half of Manchester.
