‘The most important quality in a coach is to adapt to the players,’ claims Hyderabad FC boss Manolo Marquez

Hyderabad FC head coach, Manolo Marquez has opened up on his coaching philosophy, revealing that the most important quality in a manager/coach is to “adapt to the players”.

Marquez who has vast experience as a manager has been brilliant for Hyderabad ever since he was appointed as head coach in 2020, transforming the club from wooden spoon holders to winners of last seasons Indian Super League (ISL) title.

“In professional football, the most important thing is to win the game. But for me, one of the most important qualities in a coach is to adapt to the players. I don’t like too much to defend, defend, defend, but if you don’t have the correct players to [play his preferred way], you will lose the ball. The possibilities of winning depend on the qualities of your players and you have to adapt to them,” Marquez said in an interview with ESPN.

What has been even more impressive is that the Spaniard has given opportunities to youngsters by taking them under his wings. Youngsters like Laxmikant Kattimani, Akash Mishra, Chinglensana Singh, Asish Rai, Mohammad Yasir, and Souvik Chakrabarti among others that played their best football under Marquez and led their team to win the championship.
